Survivor Recounts Time That 'Deranged Individual' Assaulted Northern Manchester Synagogue

A man involved in barricading a house of prayer in the Manchester area has shared how a deadly incident occurred, leading to the demise of a pair of British Jews.

Early Thursday, a congregant was within the Heaton Park synagogue when an attacker rammed a car into and attacked with a knife worshippers assembling for a observance to observe Yom Kippur.

The witness stated that the 'evil' individual tried to break down the entrances of the synagogue, and he recalled locking down the building with other worshippers.

Adrian Daulby, 53, and Melvin Cravitz, 66 died in the violence on that day, while three others were hurt while trying to protect others.

Witness Account of the Attack

He, who acts as a Chair of the Trustees at the synagogue, described holding the doors and stated that the perpetrator used blades and outdoor items to try to get in.

"I saw a large, menacing figure shoulder charge in the front doors, seeking to force them open while armed with a blade," he told interviewers.

The single phrase that was audible he uttered 'this is what you're going to get for killing our children'.

"That's the only thing I heard him say. We stood inside the building and we were saying 'we are not letting this man in'.

He acted like an insane and malevolent attacker."

Ceremony Conducted for Deceased

The comments were made as many individuals were present at the ceremony for one of the victims.

Relatives, attendees from the synagogue group including Rabbi Daniel Walker, and individuals of the Jewish population came together in a nearby location to show support.

Attendees crowded the burial ground, with several standing outdoors the ceremony space in the rain, listening to the proceedings over speakers.

In a message released on Friday, the victim's loved ones said that he was always willing to assist.

Police Inquiry and Arrests

Law enforcement reported that the individual was likely struck by police gunfire as they shot the attacker soon after the incident was reported.

The victim, who was hailed by his relatives as a "hero", was attending a gathering at the house of worship when the attack unfolded.

He remained a dear family member, devoted uncle to his four nieces and one nephew and a dear extended family member," his loved ones added.

Relatives are devastated by the unexpected loss of a kind and humble individual.

His last actions showed immense heroism and he remains in memory for his courageous effort."

Multiple detentions have been made in regarding the attack, and police stated that four people were still detained on that time.

The detained were arrested on suspicion of commission, preparation and instigation of acts of terrorism.

The suspects consist of several men, of specific ages and detained in the local area; a 61-year-old woman arrested in Prestwich; and a middle-aged female apprehended elsewhere.

Two additional individuals were released with no further proceedings, police reported on the following day.
