The Manchester United manager has stated emphatically that he will will not resign from his role despite the club's current difficulties, but he admits that he faces the sack if results do not improve.

Present Struggles & Table Standing

The head coach has collected just thirty-four points in 33 top-flight games, and the club now placed 14th in the table following a 15th-place result the previous campaign. United have secured just two wins in their opening seven fixtures of the campaign, including a shock League Cup exit at Grimsby and last weekend's loss to Brentford. That outcome prolonged Amorim's search for his first back-to-back league wins since arriving 11 months ago.

This Saturday, Sunderland FC will visit the Theatre of Dreams, and a further loss could heighten scrutiny on the Portuguese coach.

The Manager's Position Regarding Stepping Down

When asked on if he would consider resigning, he stated: “Absolutely not, that is the call for the directors. I cannot take that step. At times I have that feeling because defeat is hard, not to create positive momentum. It’s so frustrating after building that momentum, heading into the following match, things go wrong. That feeling sometimes hurts me a lot. Also the squad and especially the staff at the club. Yet it isn't my choice and I believe it would be really hard to leave if I haven't do everything to follow my career here.”

“It is a dream to be here and I wish to continue here and I want to fight for success. However the issue now that causes me suffer is losing matches, not the fear of losing my job. You fear to lose your job when you need to pay expenses and I don’t have that feeling.”

Explaining the Formation Tactics

Amorim additionally offered an impassioned defense of his 3-4-3 formation, which has come under fire of much scrutiny. Amorim has deployed the formation consistently yet it has so far failed to deliver steady results desired.

“Nobody at the club is naive,” he said. “We understand that we need results to advance our plans. We'll reach a point where it's untenable for all involved since this is a massive club with many partners, with two owners. It's challenging, managing expectations is very difficult. My aim is for my team – winning or losing – playing consistently but we're failing to do so.”

He noted that the team used in different systems under previous managers, also without success. “We must to play with consistency, with equal power, with the same energy, with the same concentration. Should we achieve that, the system won't matter which setup we use.”

Arrangements Regarding Mid-Season Exhibition Matches

He confirmed plans to play high-revenue winter exhibition games to help increase revenue missed by not qualifying for European competition. “We have to organize these as we anticipated when we miss Europe,” he said. “We have our fans and our budget and we aim to be with supporters around the world.”

Manchester United will observe a moment of silence on Saturday with the squad will wear black armbands in tribute following the terrorist attack at a synagogue on Thursday. Local rivals City will also pay respects for their league and Women’s Super League fixtures this weekend.
